Why condition of IIT hostels should not be improved!
Over the past 2-3 years secnario in the IIT hostels have changed…dramatically. Now the students don’t have to go outside for the crowd, they just turn their heads around and the crowd is right there! Yes, in their room. While authorities are tight lipped about the lack of infrastructure but few are even endorsing the change and some justifying it.
One of the important people from administration when asked about the condition of hostels said some valid interesting points “We have seen so many suicides and stress problems that ail the students. Since we cannot guard everyone all the time, we thought why not unite them. 2-3 students living in each room will give them the strength to fight depression, stress etc which troubles them.” While i almost laughed at the reply, but I let him continue “Anyway they copy the assignments together.” After a little thought he consolidated, “So we can say that we are aiding them in their studies as well.”
When asked to elaborate further he hesitatingly continued “Earlier the so called ‘maggus’ won’t share the assignments or let others know that they have completed it but now they don’t have that option. Anyways learning comes from joint effect.” Puzzled, when I asked “You meant joint effort?” He replied “You know what i mean.”
But students hold completely opposite views. Apart from using many blasphemous words one claimed “It has become an effing pigeon hole.” He said that he saw many of those on the roof tops during his coaching days in Kota and can find the resemblance.
Listening to the students words a Computer Science Professor said “See these are the clear indications of positive effects on students. They have now become innovative and can resemble real life situations with natural occurrences. Who knows some hardworking student might be able to recognize some patterns in these ‘pigeon holes’ and crack a winning theory.” The Prof. believed that Google worked on Pigeon algorithms and he was happy that students were thinking of them. He said he also remembers something related to birds in the John Nash movie A Beautiful Mind, he won the Nobel Prize he said.
While some students are worried that they have lost their privacy completely which they need urgently once in a while, especially at night. Many others are already at the verge of breakups. “See we are completely ruined now. They must understand that growing curious boys have needs.” One student said. He refused to explain further. When told about breakups he showed a certain pleasure with an evil smile of satisfaction.
No girl could be interviewed on the matter because it was extremely difficult to spot them and those few recognized were hovered over by ‘desperate vultures’, in one of the student’s words.
When iitstories were asked to comment they said that they were hopeful that things will change for good and better infrastructure will be provided to students keeping in view the fee hike. But till then we can continue to make a little fun than whine about it.
Since most writers don’t know how to end a fake article “East or west, IIT the best.”
